Wynwood Art Lab presents the Figurative Exhibition "Vanilla Ice Cream" with the collaboration of the students of the Barcelona Art Academy at the Axel Hotel Barcelona.


Wynwood Art Laband the Barcelona Art Academypresent an unprecedented exhibition of works by senior students, mentored by BAA instructors, Sofía Zuluaga andCarl de Jager, with the collaboration of Wynwood Point andAxel Hotel Barcelona, ​​and the sponsorship of By Bossy Group.

The Figurative Exhibition "Vanilla ice cream" refers to a fresh proposal, with a novel format, which also speaks of the freshness of young BAA artists who present here a selection of figurative works, but at the same time with a modern style that adapts to the "hetero-friendly" image of the tourist establishment Axel Hotel Barcelona.

In this exhibition, you can appreciate the creative expressions with varied techniques that include pencil, ink, charcoal, graphite and oil on paper, canvas and board of the representatives of the BAA: Ayuesh Agarwal, Blanche Ellis, Elijah Raventós, John Bissset, Lucinda Wait, Nejal Mehta, Nina Winther, Stefano Mussato, Virginia Brito and instructorsSofia Zuluaga andCarl de Jager.


Barcelona Academy of Art

The Barcelona Academy of Art is a highly specialized school dedicated to the teaching of drawing, painting, sculpture and digital art with a complete curriculum and teaching methods derived from the classical-realist tradition. It is a methodology based on the Renaissance, and revived by the main academic realist ateliers of the late nineteenth century (especially in the teaching of master painters such as Jean-Léon Gérôme, Léon Bonnat and Carolus-Durán). The Director of the BAA is Jordi Díaz Alamà, Licensed by The Florence Academy of Art and winner of the Figurative'11 Contest of the MEAM and the LI International Drawing Prize Ynglada-Guillot of the Reial Acadèmia Catalana de Belles Arts de Sant Jordi.


Sofia Zuluaga

Degree in Visual Arts, Fine Arts from the Pratt Institute in New York in 2009 and degree in Figurative Art, Fine Art from the Art Academy of Florence in 2015, Sofia obtained an artistic residency at the Barcelona Academy of Art and since then is an Instructor principal at the Barcelona Academy of Art Barcelona.


Carl de Jager

Carl de Jager was born in South Africa. After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts, specialization in Graphic Design and History of Art, in 1996 he left the country to spend the next two decades living and working as a graphic designer and software developer in England and later in Australia, where he obtained citizenship in 2005. In 2015, he decided to pursue a career in painting and moved to Barcelona to study at the BAA. He completed the advanced painting course in 2018, and is currently an instructor in the Drawing Program of the BAA.


Wynwood Art Labhas already had a season presenting several artistic samples of varied style in the urban Axel Hotel Barcelona, ​​of the first LGBTQ friendly Axel Hotels chain. In this space the artists Pérez Soler, XRaich, Catherine Correia, Marilena Barquero, Pablo Rodríguez, andFred Goudonalready exhibited. This show will go from April, 11th to June, 14th.
